Tragedy echoed through South Africa’s graffiti scene with news of the passing of Pastelheart last week.

RIP Pastelheart!

The young Durban-based graffiti artist, fashion designer and all-round nice guy was one of the most talented artists to roam these streets. His vivid, wild at heart and loveable personality will be sorely missed. Many have shared how he touched their hearts, as well as the admiration they have for how he kissed the walls of the city…

SPOTLIGHT \\ Pastel Heart

One of South Africa’s most interesting young artists is Pastel Heart. Last year he won the graffiti title in the countrywide ‘Sprite Uncontainable’ hip hop competition.

Together with The Fader, Sprite have been working on a series of videos documenting South Africa’s street culture. Read an interview with Pastel Heart here and watch the video below.

EVENT \\ uShaka Body Art & Chalk Drawing Competition


A body art and chalk drawing competition took place at Durban’s uShaka Marine World on Saturday August 27. The event was hosted by Ewok and had an under water theme. Eight artists from around the country competed in a chalk board competition and twelve artists in the body painting competition. There was a guest chalk street artist from Florida, USA who demonstrated his art to the masses.
