Revy Etsy any Kantsa (REK) is an emerging multi-disciplinary festival of art initiated in 2010 and held annually in Ambohimangakely near the capital city Antananarivo in Madagascar. Each festival hosts local and international artists who participate in an on-site residency and contribute work to the festival. This year the festival is to be held in the city center and titled Festival d’Art Urbain, Antananarivo 2014 and coincides with the the inauguration of the new artists space in Antananarivo ‘La Teinturerie’ (The Laundry) created by Is’Art Gallery.

The festival launches over a 24 hour period, Saturday, October 4 morning to Sunday, 5 October morning in a former textile factory located Ampasinamalo. This site is kindly lent by Mr. and Mrs.. Andriantsitohaina in order to develop the visual arts and includes a gallery space and a collaborative workshop, which will be managed by Is’Art gallery. This festival will be an inauguration of this site as a new artistic platform and runs for the following week.

This year is marked by the arrival of eight South African artists in residence. Painters, sculptors, photographers and street artists, they bring in their own vision of the urban environment of Antananarivo. They will work alongside Malagasy artists from various disciplines such as performance, installation, dance, music and street art.

The festival is an attempt to connect a more urban public to contemporary expressions. Antananarivo is a city steeped in history but has no long tradition of contemporary art events. This festival intends to fill this gap.
